Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP)
About the party
Naziur Rahman Manzur formed the party in 2001 after leaving the Jatiya Party; it is now led by his son, Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho. It has 1 member in the 13th Parliament.
Naziur Rahman Manzur took part in the Liberation War, was a minister in the Ershad government and Mayor of Dhaka, and was secretary general of the Jatiya Party from 1998 to 2001. After differences over policy with the party's chairman, Hussain Muhammad Ershad, he formed the Bangladesh Jatiya Party on 5 August 2001, which is why the party is also known as Jatiya Party (Naziur).
As a member of the BNP-led four-party alliance the party won four seats in the 2001 election, and it later stayed in the 20-party alliance; it left that alliance in 2019. In 2008 the party's chairman, Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, was elected a Member of Parliament from Bhola.
