S.M. Rafiqul Islam is a member of the 13th Parliament elected from Gazipur-3 and Assistant Health Affairs Secretary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Dr S.M. Rafiqul Islam, known as Rafiqul Islam Bachchu, is a member of the 13th Parliament elected from Gazipur-3 (Sreepur upazila and part of Gazipur Sadar). This is his first term in Parliament, as the nominee of the BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party). In September 2026 he was nominated chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He was born on 12 May 1963 in Sreepur, Gazipur district. His father is Shamsuddin Ahmed and his mother Razia Khatun. He is a physician by profession and has long been involved in politics alongside his medical practice.
Rafiqul Islam is assistant health affairs secretary of the BNP's central executive committee and first joint convener of the Gazipur district BNP.
In the 13th parliamentary election held on 12 February 2026, he was elected MP for Gazipur-3 with 162,343 votes under the sheaf of paddy symbol. With this victory a BNP candidate won the seat after a long gap of 47 years.
