Shahjahan Chowdhury is the member of parliament for Cox's Bazar-4 (Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas) in the 13th Parliament. This veteran leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has been elected member of parliament for the fifth time. He is a former Whip of Parliament and an organiser of the Liberation War.

Shahjahan Chowdhury was born on 31 December 1952 in Rajapalong union, Ukhia upazila, Cox's Bazar district. After completing his primary and secondary education in Ukhia, he passed the intermediate examination from Chittagong College, and in 1975 he completed a BA (Honours) in sociology at the University of Chittagong.

He has been active in politics since his school days. During the Liberation War, as president of the Ukhia thana Chhatra League, he played an active part on the side of the Liberation War. According to accounts in various books, in December 1971 news of a plan to move the weapons out of Ukhia police station reached the freedom fighters through him, and on that basis the Ukhia police station operation was carried out on 12 December.

In 1977 he was elected chairman of the Rajapalong union parishad. A founding joint convener of the BNP in what was then Cox's Bazar subdivision, Shahjahan Chowdhury later served two terms as president of the Cox's Bazar district BNP. In the election to the 2nd Parliament in 1979 he was first elected member of parliament, from what was then Chattogram-18 (Ramu, Ukhia and Teknaf), and in the 2nd Parliament he was a Whip of the ruling party. He was elected member of parliament for Cox's Bazar-4 in 1991, February 1996 and 2001. In the 5th Parliament he was a member of the all-party parliamentary committee formed to establish peace in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and of the committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs. In the 8th Parliament he was chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

In the election to the 13th Parliament held on 12 February 2026 he was again elected member of parliament for Cox's Bazar-4 as the BNP candidate, winning 123,582 votes with the sheaf of paddy symbol.
